But where am I at at the moment? Well I got back into the hobby only recently after having a bit of a lull for 20 years!! I really regret it being so long, but I know others in the same boat, as life takes over and then suddenly you remember this awesome hobby you loved so long ago, and wonder would it still interest me now?
My son came across my old circa 1980's wood elf army when he was 8 - and that was that. After explaining to him what it was all about and having a very simple game he was hooked ... and so was I (again!) That was 18 months ago. I got back in touch with my old club and I haven't looked back
So I have at the moment:
- 1 Wood Elf Army updated to the latest rules (8th edition Games Workshop Fantasy Battles). Mostly painted, re based in parts, and expanded
- 1 Vampire Counts Army. This started to give my son and I another army to play each other at home. I got hooked, and now have I think over 300 zombies alone, expanding rapidly, but getting close to being finished (in my mind at least)
- A Platoon of Fallschirmjäger with an AT gun, mortar section, HMG but no vehicles. Not painted but based and undercoated. The guys at the club use Kampfgruppe rules
- A relatively large English Civil War army in 25mm and 28mm. Most of these were very generously given to me by a member of the club. I will be expanding on these with another 80 foot, a couple more cannon as a start, and I will be re-basing the entire army to suit the rule set commonly played Pike and Shotte. I will also consider giving these troops a 'touch up', fixing the chipped paint here and there, replacing bent pikes with new ones, maybe washing, inking or dipping them, adding a few highlights.... maybe.
- My son has started a Yorkist War of the Roses Army. He got a few boxes of plastics for XMAS and his birthday (he is now just 10), and his army has grown dramatically. He has done a great job - just needs to pain the majority of them.
- I have just leapt into the realm of ancients as well. FOG is played routinely at the club in 15mm, however I have really been interested in 28mm Ancients. There is more than enough Greek Hoplites and Macedonians to fight, so I have decided to start a 28mm Persian army. I am waiting on the delivery of 125 foot and 60 Cavalry to get me going - wish me luck. I will have to think about how I get these guys onto the field in the shortest period of time.
- My son also has 40k Space Marines, and Tyranids, and a swarm of Lord of the rings good and evil to play a fun skirmish game. Oh not to mention Space Hulk - what a game!
World War 1 - I really would like to build some early war armies, at this stage the Gallipoli peninsular - but who knows. Building the terrain for this would be great fun. 28mm
Napoleonic - Prussians 28mm
Anyways enough r from me. Hopefully that gave you a bit of an insight as to what I play and am interested in - pretty much everything. Hopefully I will get some pics up of the various armies soon.
